Laboratorios Almond S.L.

Almond is active in the field of dietetic and functional food and produces instant powder drinks, tetrapak drinks, soups and desserts which are all 100% non-diary and basically organic. The products are mainly sold in Europe, with the focus on Spain. Almond is leader in the non-dairy, non-soy drinks, especially nut “milks”.

The company, which was founded in 1995 and today employs 19 people, spends about 5% of its turnover on research and has a lot of informal contacts with universities and other organisations. Its philosophy is clearly progressive, which is also reflected by the steady investment in new projects, for example the introduction of functional soy drinks (omega 3 and added isoflavones) into the Spanish and European markets. Since 2000 the company is exclusively developing organic food and is focusing on adding functional value to their products. That is why the development of cholesterol-lowering products perfectly fits to the company’s portfolio.

After the successful introduction of functional drinks to the market, Almond now wants to strengthen their market position especially in the field of functional non-dairy desserts to render their functional food portfolio more complete. That is why Almond will develop cholesterol-lowering desserts within the project. The company is highly interested in the results of this project and has free capacities to successfully and quickly exploit the results of the project work. Their experience in marketing their own products from the start of the production will also lead to the quick launch of new developed products. Dr. Gil Mariola, technical director and Dr. Francisco Lajarin, general manager, will coordinate the activities of Almond and will together with Josefa Ruiz develop the cholesterol lowering desserts.
